THE ACCESS PROJECT
This year, the School Stories Awards are supporting The Access Project.
All the entry fees will be donated to the charity.
The Access Project supports students from under-resourced backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university.
Their work is vital as access to top universities in the UK is profoundly unequal.
According to the Department for Education, students from disadvantaged backgrounds are five times less likely to attend top universities in comparison to more advantaged students.
They believe that every young person should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and make the most of their education.
The Access Project are passionate about reducing the educational barriers their students face so that they can follow their dreams.
Students who receive support from The Access Project program are almost twice as likely to attend top universities as statistically similar students, according to UCAS.

THE PATHWAY TO CAMBRIDGE: BERIL
Beril, an alum of The Access Project, sat her A levels in the summer of 2023 and achieved three A*s and an A (in History, Psychology, Turkish and Maths). Having achieved these fantastic results, Beril will be starting her studies at Cambridge University at the beginning of October.

Laura got a four As in her A levels and is heading to the London School of Economics to study Environment and Sustainable Development.

Joseph, based in Lancashire, gained a 9 in his Chemistry GCSE following support in Year 11 from his tutor, Jane.

ALEVEL RESULTS DAY: GEORGINA
Georgina was awarded four A* grades in her A level exams which means she is now able to achieve her dream of studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University.

BREAKING THE BARRIERS PODCAST
Whilst busily studying for their A levels, they have found the time to develop a new podcast series, aiming to spread awareness of the personal barriers they and their peers face.

Sofian is now in Year 12 and is studying for his A Levels. He has been keen to take up all of the opportunities offered to him on our programme.
